Club Championship Results 2011-2012

George Steel Shield (Club Match 1) - 3/07/2011
 
25 anglers turned out for the first club match. The river was low and clear and very weedy but that did not stop a few chub from feeding. Fishing was hard at time but there was a few good weights at the end. 1st On the day was M Wooldridge with 26lb. Mark was drawn just below the weir pool at kellaways. Mark fished the stick float with hemp and caster to tempt chub to 3lb. 2nd went to S White with 13lb 13oz. Stuart has caught small roach and chub on the pole also using hemp and caster. 3rd was S Palmer with 12lb. Steve caught well at the start of the match using maggots in his shallow swim to temp small dace and chub.

Presidents Cup (Club match 2) - 23/07/2011
 
A nice day for this one, sun in the sky nice breeze blowing however the river was like tap water. The fishing was going to be hard we thought for this one. This match was very similar to the Monday with the lower end fishing better again. Also it was the first real match where a few roach were caught the hemp. 1st on the day went to A Hyde with 13lb 15oz. Alex has fish the chopped worm at 10m to catch one tench and big perch ( there’s a surprise ) for his winning weight. 2nd was S Palmer with 13lb. Steve has fished the long pole with maggot to temp good roach from riverside drive. 3rd was D Johnson with 11lb 7oz. Dave was drawn on the shallows and you could see the bottom all the way across the river. This did not stop him catching small Roach and chub on the pole on worm.

Bob Taylor Trophy  (Club Match 3) - 10/09/2011
 
19 people turned for this Saturday afternoon match. The river was very, clear and full of weed. With pegs hard to find so there were some very narrow swims put in. First on the day went to S Palmer with 19lb 8oz of roach. Steve has drawn a narrow swim at Kellaways and fished hemp on the whip to take his roach and few dace. Second on the day was R Bullock with 16lb 6oz. Rob drew the run off from the pool at Kellaways an fished caster on the stick float to tempt small chub and dace. Third went to S Wade with 10lb 8oz from the plank peg at kellaways. Simon has fished the pole with caster close in to catch small dace and perch.

Club Match 4 - 02/10/2011
 
25 people came out for this match which was held on sections 1 and 2. The river was Crystal clear and there was lots of floating weed blowing around. 1st on the day was D Baker with 12lb 8oz. Dennis has fished the long pole with caster to temp 2 good Bream and skimmers for his winning weight. Joint 2nd was M Wooldridge and J Garner both with 5lb 1/2oz. John has caught small perch and a few skimmers on the long pole with worm. Mark has caught much the same but this time using maggots on the pole. 3rd was N Smith with 4lb 13 1/2 oz. Nigel has caught all perch on the long pole using chop worm.

20 people fished this one. The river was still clear and full of weed. There were few Roach caught but the perch and a few chub did show. First on the day was V Abbott with 13lb 6oz. Vic has caught two good tench and lots of small perch on the pole with worm at 10m. Second went to A Hyde with 12lb 12oz. Alex has caught mainly Chub on the waggler with maggot. (yes he still managed a big perch too for a change). Third on the day was K Williams with 12lb 4oz. Kevin has caught chub and big perch on the waggler with bronze maggot.

18 people fished this one. The river is still very clear and has very little flow. On the day it was quite close between 2nd and 4th with just 3 1/12oz separating them. First on the day was I Liddell with 6lb 15oz. Ian has fished the waggler with maggot to catch manly small fish and one big perch for his weight. Second went to S White with 5lb 11oz. Stuart has also caught small fish using the waggler and the pole with maggot to build his weight. Third was D Baker with 5lb 9oz. Dennis has caught a few small chub on the waggler with maggot.

25 turned up for this match on a windy day. The river still had a slight green tinge to the water and look good. 1st on the day was G Dodson with 12lb 1/2oz. Gary has caught good perch and a big chub using bread and worms switching from the float to the straight lead. 2nd went to D Johnson with 11lb 9oz. Dave drew next to where he won the new years day match below the town bridge and fished the same way. Dave caught roach on the waggler feeding caster. 3rd was J Garner with 11lb. John fish the pole over groundbait with caster to temp his roach weight.

Club Match 8 - 19/02/2012

This was the last club match of the season and saw 26 anglers turn up. Fishing was good in a few places with chub and a few roach showing. First on the day was M Wooldridge with 16lb 1oz. mark has drawn a in form peg below the town bridge. Mark used the crowquil and waggler to tempt small roach and chub on maggot. Second went to M Ash with 14lb 7oz. Mic has fish the waggler with maggots to temp 5 chub. Third was G Etheridge with 11lb 13oz. Gary has also used the waggler with maggots to temp 2 good chub and a few smaller ones.
